April 2013: The Changing Faces of Real Estate
As a Realtor and the owner of a young and innovative real estate company, I am often confronted with an overwhelming realization that, to quote a personal hero, the times they are a-changin'. What makes this most clear for me right now is Dwell's innovative stable of agents. We all work here because we want to do this in a different way. Our agents are young and new and hungry for a different perspective on how to practice real estate. They are responding to a changing market, and a changing world, at such a crazy and exciting speed that it blows my mind daily.
Why so much change? The movement toward revising the way we practice real estate, interact with our community, and effectively help people…
Denver Neighborhood Hot Spots: True Food
Tuesday, April 2nd, 2013 at 8:31am. 195 Views, 0 Comments.
True Food is a scene, and we mean that in the best possible way. This eatery could easily be transported to the trendiest corner on Melrose Avenue and no one would be the wiser!
Restaurant: True Food is the marriage of delicious food, fresh juices, and Dr. Andrew Weil's crazy idea that healthy eating shouldn't deprive you of fun or flavor.
Location: 2800 E 2nd Ave., in Denver's Cherry Creek neighborhood.
The Atmosphere is...loud and electric. Waits can be long at peak times, but the people watching should keep you occupied. Servers (aka "Consultants") are clad in their finest yoga duds and the clientele ranges from crunchy granola to Wall Street transplants. The Entourage set would be quite comfortable here, but so would your hippie…

"Urban Farming"
Hey Neighbor,
I did it. I drank the Kool-Aid and took the plunge. I am officially an urban farmer.
We've always had a garden, but this year our living menagerie of dogs and kids will expand to include 8 chicks and 60,000 bees. I'm already lost in daydreams of farm fresh frittatas and tea sweetened with my own honey. Sure, a lot of mud, sweat and tears will go into the process, but what are a few potential bee stings in the face of all of this bounty?
Are you tempted? Let me get you a glass of punch and we can talk chicken.
First, I despise grocery store eggs. They have no flavor. Their shells fracture into a thousand tiny pieces that I am…

March 2013: Inventory Shortage
At least once a day I am asked the question that real estate agents field more than any other: "How's the market?" I'm usually prepped with a quick answer that aims to compress the nuances of our complex market into a nice little package. These days, my answer is shorter than it's ever been.
"There is NO inventory!"
There are fewer homes on the market right now than there have been in the last 23 years! This situation has created a unique set of pros and cons for sellers and buyers alike.
Prices are rising. In fact, home prices in Denver rose over 12% in the last year, well above the national average. Buyers are not deterred by rising costs because record-low interest rates allow them to purchase at a…
Neighborhood Snapshots: Curtis Park / Five Points
Thursday, February 21st, 2013 at 9:28am. 201 Views, 0 Comments.
The Dwell team had a great time previewing vibrant Curtis Park and the surrounding blocks, including Five Points, on Saturday. This historic neighborhood, like much of Central Denver, is in high demand and has a very low inventory of listings. There is currently a two-month supply of homes for sale, creating a competitive seller's market.
One of the many things Curtis Park has going for it is an amazing location. It is a stone's throw from downtown, and the neighborhood also sits between two great business districts - the RiNo Art District and the up-and-coming Welton St District. As for the architecture - we can't say enough! If you want tall ceilings look in Curtis Park. This 1870s neighborhood is home to most of Denver's Italianate style homes,…

"Reuse, Recycle, Redecorate"
Hey Neighbor,
It's been a while - have you missed me? I've missed you. These chats keep me sane in the midst of what has become quite a home renovation. Quick recap: sold first house, sunk all our money into new house, working our way through big and small renovations one little piece at a time.
Which brings me to today's topic, if I may. I have recently been introduced to a fairly common dilemma for the up-and-coming homeowner set. We sell the starter home, buy the "forever" home, unpack our belongings, and realize that our furniture looks tiny in this new larger space. And we don't have enough pictures. Or couches. Or beds for that…
