Neighborhood Spotlight: City Park West

City Park in Denver, CO

This week’s Dwell Denver Neighborhood Spotlight shines on one of Denver’s tastiest neighborhoods, City Park West.  It’s often lumped in with other neighborhoods such as Uptown, City Park, and even Capitol Hill but no, friends. City Park West holds its own.

You’ll never want for a good meal around here.  It’s a hotbed for Denver’s culinary scene. And considering that the eastern border is Denver’s largest, arguably greatest park, we’re about to show you why City Park West is one of Denver’s coolest central neighborhoods!

Boundaries:

North: E. 23rd Ave.
East: York Street/City Park

Neighborhood Anchor:

Although there are gems scattered around the neighborhood, 17th Ave. and City Park tend to be thought of as the anchors of City Park West.  Most shopping, restaurant, and drinking establishments are located on 17th Ave., E. Colfax Ave., and York St. There are also several hospitals and medical buildings in City Park West that serve all of Denver.

Get around on a bus, bike, ride-share, Lime/Bird scooter, or on foot.  City Park West’s central location makes it fairly accessible to most major thoroughfares.  It’s got a Walk Score of 77, a Transit Score of 55, and a Bike Score of 97, making it a virtual cyclist paradise.

Architectural Influence:

Very diverse architectural styles ranging from Victorian homes alongside charming bungalows, gorgeous Denver Squares, stately turn-of-the-century mansions, newly remodeled duplexes, and modern condo complexes are represented in City Park West.  The Castle Marne Bed & Breakfast shares an architect with The Molly Brown House in Capitol Hill. Some of the most stunning homes in Denver can be found on the streets between Colfax Ave. and 18th Ave. and lining York St. facing City Park.

Why We Like City Park West:

Several smaller Historic Districts are located within the boundaries of City Park West, such as Lafayette Street (two blocks of gorgeous Victorian homes), East Park Place (a one-block stretch of early 1900s Denver Squares), Wyman District, including East High School, and Humboldt Street/Park Ave. The history of Denver can be revealed in the architecture and culture of City Park West. It’s one of our favorite central Denver neighborhoods.
