A Brief History of Wellshire

Wellshire’s surrounding area was established between 1899 and 1913 by owner Jay Morton. Not much was done with the land until developers took interest decades later.

The neighborhood was officially established in the 1950s. This eclectic area started as a sparse spattering of ranch-style homes. The International style—with large front windows neighboring striking brick walls—is still prominent in the neighborhood’s architecture.

In the modern era, Wellshire continues to be a highly sought-after residential oasis. In 2019, it was ranked the second-best neighborhood to live in Denver. It ranked third in best neighborhood to buy a home and to raise a family.

With a lack of retail and restaurant amenities, Wellshire isn’t exactly the meander-through-to-400- boutique-coffee-shops kind of neighborhood. But it’s perfect for those who want all the suburban feel with the nearby downtown resources.
